Russian Weightlifting Federation

Russian Weightlifting Federation (RWF) – is a public association founded in 1992. It includes sport organizations from 66 subjects of Russian Federation. RWF main purpose is to propagandize and to organize weightlifting in our country in order to increase sports role in citizens’ lives. RWF aims to promote the idea of physical culture and healthy lifestyle as an important aspect of harmonious development of person’s organism and the personality in its entirety. In addition the Federation provides social protection and support to sportsmen, coaches, as well as handicapped people and weightlifting veterans.

RWF supreme governing body is conference. During the conference executive committee is elected once in 4 years. The committee carries out the constant guidance of Federation current matters. The conference is conducted annually in order to listen to executive committee’s report and to adopt a work plan for the next calendar year.
The executive committee is run by its president (currently S. Syrtsov), general secretary (currently Y. Teryaev) and by seven Vice-presidents. RWF structure also includes regional agencies in all Russian Federation subjects.

Nowadays Russian weightlifters worthily carry the fine traditions of this sport that were founded during the times of USSR, regularly participate in almost every major international tournaments, taking leading positions among the best teams of the world.

One of the evidences is 2010 World Championship that took place in Antalya. Russian weightlifters won 3 golden, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals and took second place in the team event. Europe Championship that took place in Kazan in April 2011 can also set as a good example. Russian weightlifting team proved to be absolute leader in all bodyweight categories.

Today RWF closely cooperates with IWF and EWF. With their support joint international competitions conduction programs are realized. Regular meetings with the governing bodies of these international organizations are held as well. During such meetings the questions of weightlifting popularization in Russia and in the world are discussed.
